UK became the biggest export market of Turkish automotive industry

In September, the biggest export market of the Turkish automotive industry was England. Exports to England, which left Germany behind, increased by 20%.

Automotive industry’s exports in September decreased by 5% to $2.5 billion. January-September 2021 period exports increased by 24% to $21.3 billion. Automotive also ranked first in Turkey’s exports. In September, a change took place in the biggest market of the Turkish automotive industry. England surpassed Germany, which is the largest export market in automotive on a country basis, and became the country with the most exports. Exports to the UK were $338 million with an increase of 20%. While exports to Germany were $319 million with a decrease of 5%, exports to France, the third-largest market, decreased by 34% to $200 million.

THE CHIP CRISIS CONTINUES

Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OIB) Chairman of the Board Baran Celik said, “The interruptions in motor vehicle production due to the semiconductor chip crisis, which is effective on a global scale, continue to have a negative impact on our automotive exports. While there was a double-digit decrease in passenger cars and bus-midibus-minibus exports, our exports of motor vehicles for transporting goods increased by double-digits.”
