Turkiye: $9.8 million income from tea exports

Tea exports from Turkiye in the January-May period of the year increased by 15% and reached $9 million 801 thousand 535.

Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKIB) Vice Chairman of the Board Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan said that Turkiye exports tea to 93 countries in 5 months of the year.

Stating that 2,982 tons of tea were exported in the January-May period, Gurdogan stated that $9 million 801 thousand 535 were gained from the said exports.

Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom are in the top three

Gurdogan noted that $8 million 511 thousand 977 were earned in return for the export of 2 thousand 115 tons of tea in the same period of last year, and continued as follows:

“Tea exports increased by 41% in quantity and 15% in value compared to the same period of the previous year. Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom were the 3 countries that exported the most tea. Tea exports were made to Belgium for $2 million 237 thousand 680, to Germany for $1 million 484 thousand 780 and to the United Kingdom for $1 million 248 thousand 404.”

Noting that the diversity of countries has increased in parallel with the increase in exports, Gurdogan noted that tea was sold to Hungary, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Kenya, Estonia, Czechia and Mayotte, different from last year.

Pointing out that their expectations are high based on the export potential in question, Gurdogan added that they plan to complete the year with very good figures in tea exports.
