Turkey’s tourism revenue exceeded $3 billion in the second quarter of 2021

Turkey’s tourism revenue, in the second quarter of this year, amounted to $3 billion 3 million 628 thousand.

The Turkish Statistical Institute announced the tourism statistics for the April-June period of this year. Accordingly, tourism revenue was $3 billion 3 million 628 thousand in the second quarter. 73.1% of tourism income (excluding mobile phone roaming and marina service expenditures) was obtained from foreign visitors and 26.9% from citizen visitors residing abroad.

$2 billion 436 million 913 thousand of the expenditures made in the said period consisted of personal expenditures and $566 million 716 thousand consisted of package tour expenditures.

The average spend per night this quarter was $57. The average nightly expenditure of foreigners staying overnight was $64, while the average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was $44.

FOREIGNERS VISITED TURKEY MOSTLY FOR “TRAINING, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES”

The number of visitors departing from Turkey was 4 million 66 thousand 210 people. 77.3% of the visitors were foreigners with 3 million 144 thousand 815 people, and 22.7% of them were citizens residing abroad with 921 thousand 395 people.

During the said period, foreign visitors visited Turkey with 70.3% mostly for “travel, entertainment, sportive and cultural activities”. “Visiting relatives and friends” was in the second place with 14.8%, and “for business purposes (conference, meeting, duty, etc.)” was in the third place with 6.7%.

Citizens residing abroad, on the other hand, came to Turkey mostly for “visiting relatives and friends” with 63.7%.

Tourism expenditure, which consists of the expenditures of citizens residing in the country and visiting other countries, was $334 million 936 thousand. $333 million 704 thousand of this was personal and $1 million 232 thousand was package tour expenses.

The number of citizens visiting abroad in this quarter was 395,189. Their average expenditure per person was recorded as $848.
