Istanbul hosted 1 million tourists in March

The number of foreign tourists coming to Istanbul in March increased by 112% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 1 million 156 thousand 400. Iranians took the first place among the foreigners who came to Istanbul in March.

According to the data of Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 2 million 904 thousand 460 foreign tourists visited the city in the first 3 months of the year.

Istanbul, which hosted 545 thousand 608 foreign tourists in March last year, received 1 million 156 thousand 400 tourists in the same month of this year with an increase of 112%.

1 million 153 thousand 138 tourists visited the city by air, 3 thousand 262 visited the city by sea. The number of those arriving in the city by air increased by 113% compared to the previous year, while the number of those arriving by sea increased by 12%.

1281 visitors from Ataturk Airport, 340 thousand 54 visitors from Sabiha Gokcen Airport and 811 thousand 803 visitors from Istanbul Airport in March. 1588 foreign visitors came from Tuzla Port, 160 from Karakoy Port, 1188 from Zeytinburnu Port, 208 from Ambarli Port, 45 from Haydarpasa Port, 23 from Marmara Port and 50 from Pendik Port.

70.40% of foreigners arriving by air used Istanbul Airport and 29.49% used Sabiha Gokcen Airport.


Among the foreigners who came to Istanbul in March, Iranians took the first place with 116 thousand 626 people.

The Iranians were followed by the Germans with 92 thousand 194, the Russians with 90 thousand 394, the British with 42 thousand 355, the Israelis with 40 thousand 120, and the French with 40 thousand 119. The French were followed by the Americans with 36,801, Iraqis with 29 thousand 49, the Dutch with 28 thousand 28 and Kuwaiti with 27 thousand 23.

Iranians made up 10.09% of those who visited Istanbul in March, Germans 7.97%, Russians 7.82%, and British 3.66%. Israelis made up 3.47% and the French made up 3.47%.

While tourists from 192 countries came to Istanbul in March, one person each from Macau, Vatican City and Bhutan visited the city.
