Investments in the electronic communications sector increased by 34% in the second quarter

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoglu announced that investments in the electronic communication sector increased by 34% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period of the previous year. Minister Karaismailoglu said, “Investments in the electronic communication sector did not slow down. Net sales revenues of the electronic communication sector increased by 18% in the second quarter of the year.” Noting that they expect the technologies to be put into use in the near future to increase the acceleration of the industry, Karaismailoglu stated that 5G and widespread high-speed fiber infrastructures will also make a positive contribution to the recovery and improvement in the economy.

₺3.8 BILLION INVESTMENT

Karaismailoglu pointed out that the net sales revenues in the sector exceeded ₺22.1 billion in the second quarter of 2021, and pointed out that the share of Turk Telekom and mobile operators in this income was ₺16.1 billion. Emphasizing that the high growth seen in investments since the beginning of the Covid-19 epidemic continued in the second quarter as well, Karaismailoglu said, “Investments increased by approximately 34% compared to the same period of the previous year and exceeded ₺3.8 billion.” Sharing the information that the number of mobile subscribers is 84.6 million, Karaismailoglu said: “The subscriber prevalence is 101.2%. 78.5 million of these subscribers are 4.5G subscribers. The number of machine-to-machine communication subscribers reached 7 million. While the number of mobile numbers ported was 152.4 million in total, 2.3 million numbers were transferred this quarter. Our total broadband internet subscribers reached 85.7 million, of which 68.3 million were mobile, increasing 9.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest percentage increase in the number of subscribers was in the number of ‘Fiber to the Home’ subscribers with 32.3%, followed by the number of ‘Cable Internet’ subscribers with a rate of 13.6%. While the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 211 GByte, the average monthly usage of mobile subscribers reached 10.5 GByte. The total fiber infrastructure length in our country increased by 10.2% and exceeded 445 thousand kilometers.”
