Cappadocia: Balloon tours stopped due to snow

Hot air balloon tours in Cappadocia were stopped due to snowfall and adverse weather conditions in the region.

In Cappadocia, which is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, hot air balloon tours that allow tourists to watch from the sky over the valleys covered with fairy chimneys and natural rock formations were canceled due to seasonal conditions.

Anatolian Hot Air Balloon Operations Association (ASBID) President Tevfik Olmez told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the tours are postponed until Friday, February 19.

Noting that the balloon tours in the region faced the obstacle of adverse weather conditions more frequently in the winter season, Olmez said, “Hot air balloon tours, which we organize on days when weather conditions are favorable, can be held in our region for an average of 300 days a year. Generally, cancellations can be experienced in this season due to wind, fog, and rain.”

Balloon tours in the region can be made with the permission given if the weather conditions are suitable as a result of the evaluation of the Nevsehir Coordinatorship of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) affiliated to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
