Turkiye Sets Record with $9.3 Billion in First Quarter Agricultural Exports

The agricultural sector achieved the highest first quarter export of all time with $9.3 billion.

Historical peaks were seen in agricultural exports in the January-March period, when geopolitical risks and global food supply problems dominated.

According to the information compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data, Turkiye’s agricultural sector achieved the highest first quarter export of all time with $9.3 billion. Agricultural exports, which increased by 8.6% in the first 3 months of the year compared to the same period of 2023, took a 14.6% share of Turkiye’s total exports.

5 out of 10 sectors operating within agriculture broke export records in the first quarter. Exports of $3.1 billion were made in the grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector, $963.6 million in fresh fruits and vegetables, and $708.3 million in fruit and vegetable products, $497.6 million of exports were made in dried fruits and products, and $49.1 million in ornamental plants and products.

In the said period, there was an annual export increase of 7% in grains, pulses, oilseeds and their products, 2.6% in fresh fruits and vegetables, and 28.9% in fruit and vegetable products, 29.9% in dried fruits and products and 2.1% in ornamental plants and products.

Exports of the grain sector to Iraq approached $600 million

When we look at the countries to which the sectors make the highest exports, Iraq took the lead in exports of grains, pulses, oilseeds and their products with $583.8 million.

While the Russian Federation took the first place in the fresh fruit and vegetable sector with $216.9 million, fruit and vegetable products were exported to the USA with $109.4 million.

Most exports to the Netherlands

While Germany ranked first in dried fruits and products with $61.6 million, the country to which the ornamental plants and products sector exported the most was the Netherlands with $10.7 million.

When looked at on a provincial basis, $903.7 million of grain, pulses, oilseeds and their products and $197.6 million of fruit and vegetable products were exported from Istanbul, Fresh fruit and vegetables worth $263.8 million were exported from Mersin, dried fruits and products worth $160.6 million from Izmir, and ornamental plants and products worth $20.6 million from Antalya.
