Turkish company will generate electricity from biogas in Somalia

In Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, the municipality signed an agreement with the Turkish company to implement the electricity generation project from waste.

Mogadishu Municipality will generate electricity from waste in the capital by signing an agreement with Somalia Waste Management and Cleaning Services company (IFFI) and Turkish company 2M Corporate Information Technologies.

In the statement made by the municipality, it was stated that a biogas plant will be established with the partnership of the two companies, and it was noted that the project aims to ensure quality electricity generation and waste cleaning in the capital.

It was stated in the statement that the project will be implemented at the end of 2024 and 100 people will be employed, and that the engineers and personnel who will take part in the project will undergo a one-year training.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Somalia, Ibrahim Muhammad Ali, emphasized that the country needs quality energy and said that such projects will help Somalia’s development.

Mücahit Ekinci, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 2M Corporate Information Technologies, stated to the AA correspondent that the project they will implement in Mogadishu consists of two phases, the first of which will be implemented on 31 December.

Ekinci said, “I hope we will produce 2.8 megawatts of energy by the end of the year. In the second phase, that is, by June 2024, we will increase our capacity to 5.6 megawatts.”
