Adil Karaismailoglu gave a speech at the opening program of this road. He said that Edirne is a city that is a favorite with its location that connects Europe and Asia, its history, culture, and bright people.

Minister Karaismailoglu underlined that they continue to produce for the future of the country without interrupting investments by taking epidemic measures.

“Openings can happen earlier”

Stating that the 1915 Canakkale Bridge work, one of the most important projects in the world, continues rapidly, Minister Karaismailoglu continued his words as follows:

“We have completed the 1,230-kilometer highway ring extending from Edirne to Sanliurfa by putting the North Marmara and Ankara-Nigde highways into service. These are very valuable and important projects in terms of transportation history in our country. These vision projects are projects realized with the vision of our President.

As a continuation of important vision projects, one of the biggest projects of our country on a global scale is the 1915 Canakkale Bridge. There is also feverish work there, and we aim to complete it on March 18, 2022. Works are going well, we may open it earlier. I hope we will be with you at the Canakkale Bridge in the coming days because it is a huge project on a world scale. It is one of the most important projects in the world with its 2 thousand 23 meters span and 318 meters of tower feet. These are exemplary projects that make our country proud.”

“Mobility increased, accidents decreased”

Minister Karaismailoglu explaining that 6 thousand kilometers of divided roads were increased to 28 thousand kilometers in 18 years during the AKP government, “There are 68 thousand kilometers of roads working under the responsibility of our General Directorate of Highways. 80% of the vehicle mobility on these roads takes place on divided roads. Thanks to these divided roads, although vehicle mobility was increased by 170%, traffic accidents decreased by up to 80%. What this means is ‘saving thousands of lives’, but also huge gains from fuel, emissions, and time. These investments are returning investments.”

Underlining that they found different financing resources in build-operate-transfer projects and implemented valuable projects, Karaismailoglu said, “These are projects that are temporary enterprises, these are projects that make a great contribution to our country and meet the construction costs because we do not use our country’s own resources in the amount of investment and the return to the economy is early because we have completed the projects in a short time.”

Karaismailoglu stated that investments continue rapidly not only in highways but also in railways.

Emphasizing that the construction of Halkali-Kapikule High-Speed Train Project is also intense, Karaismailoglu continued as follows:

“We have reached the level of 15% between Cerkezkoy-Halkali, we are working fast. We are continuing the financing negotiations between Halkali- Cerkezkoy. I hope that in the coming days when we make the tender for the Halkali-Cerkezkoy high-speed train line, a citizen of Edirne will be able to go to Ankara when he gets on the train, and even in the coming years, he will have the opportunity to go to Gaziantep by high-speed train. He will be able to go to Edirne, Halkali, Ankara, Konya, Eskisehir, and even Sivas.”
