Kazakhstan Parliament approved the simplification of customs controls with Turkiye

The intergovernmental agreement aiming to facilitate customs controls between Turkiye and Kazakhstan was approved in the Senate, the upper house of the Kazakhstan Parliament.

At the weekly plenary session of the Senate, the draft law envisaging the approval of “the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Turkiye on the regulation of information exchange and the facilitation of customs control procedures” was discussed.

The bill, which was accepted unanimously in the session, was approved by the lower house of the Parliament, the Assembly, and then by the Senate.

Kazakh Senator Nuriya Niyazova stated that the law in question aims to accelerate customs controls by activating the electronic information exchange application regarding cargo and vehicles transported between the two countries.

Niyazova emphasized that Kazakhstan does the most trade with Turkiye, after China and Italy, outside the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, and that the mutual trade volume in the first half of 2023 will exceed $2.9 billion.

Senator Niyazova stated that they currently import from Turkiye through a total of 12 checkpoints and export through 7 checkpoints. “The entry into force of this law will increase the level of cooperation between the parties with the aim of protecting economic and public interests, simplify customs control procedures and significantly increase the amount of tax payments.”

The draft law accepted by the Parliament will come into force with the signature of President Kasim Comert Tokayev.
