Dried apricot exports from Turkiye worth $408 million in 2023

Last year, Turkiye exported dried apricots, of which it is the leader in production, to 115 countries, including the USA, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands and Russia.

Turkiye earned an income of $408 million 74 thousand in 2023 from dried apricots, of which it is the leader in production, in return for 70 thousand 869 tons of export.

Malatya apricot, which is a geographical indication registered product in the European Union (EU), makes both producers and exporters happy with the foreign currency it provides to the country’s economy.

Turkiye, which sent dried apricots, which it is the leader in production and export, to 115 countries last year, also makes a name for itself in world dried apricot exports.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from Malatya Commodity Exchange data, last year, 70 thousand 869 thousand tons of dried apricots were exported to 115 countries, including the USA, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Netherlands, Russia, Israel, Italy, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Egypt, providing a foreign exchange inflow of $408 million.

The previous year, apricots provided foreign exchange inflow of $400 million 740 thousand from 76 thousand 36 tons of exports, and increased its income by approximately 2% last year, despite sending approximately 9% less product compared to the previous year.

The industry is hopeful for the new year

Erhan Almendi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Malatya Commodity Exchange, told the AA correspondent that exports continue at full speed despite the earthquake.

Explaining that their exports are constantly increasing, Almendi continued as follows:

“Last year, we earned an income of $408 million from the sale of 70 thousand 869 tons of dried apricots. This is a good figure. There is an increase compared to last year. We started to recover after the earthquake, all our businesses are working now. We intend to close the year 2024 with better figures. We have some labor problems. If we fix this, we want to get better income from apricots in 2024.”

Almendi added that only in December of this year, $40 million 821 thousand of income was obtained from the export of 7 thousand 27 tons of dried apricots, and that they want to increase these figures even higher in 2024.
