Adil Karaismailoglu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, shared the one-to-one photo of the Kanal Istanbul project on his Twitter account. In his message, Karaismailoglu said, “We are laying the foundation of our ‘Kanal Istanbul’ project, which will turn our country into a logistics base, as of June.”

‘SHIPPING FROM THE SEA IS INCREASING’

Minister Karaismailoglu also made statements about the project in the television program he attended yesterday evening. Karaismailoglu, emphasizing that the number of ships passing through Istanbul is 25 thousand, “We are in the very center of Eurasia. There was an accident in the Suez Canal recently, the channel was closed. It costs $9 billion a day. Logistics corridors are increasing. The rate of shipping by sea is increasing every year. The number of ships that should pass safely in Istanbul today is 25 thousand; But we, together with our friends, are trying to pass 43 thousand ships safely. This will increase over the years and will not be enough in the future.”

‘TURKEY WILL BE A LOGISTICS BASE’

Noting that 78 thousand ships are expected to pass in 2050, Karaismailoglu said, “With the Kanal Istanbul project, Turkey will become a logistics base. We will have started our project as of June. We will seriously need Kanal Istanbul after 10 years. The waiting times of the ships will be longer, and considering the logistics costs of their waiting costs, it will be more advantageous to pass through Kanal Istanbul. We are planning to complete it in 5 years. Sazlidere Dam meets 2.9% of Istanbul’s water needs. More water needs will be created with the dams built. There is no forest area on the route.”
