In the first half of the year, 2 thousand 253 scrap vehicles were brought into the economy

In the first half of the year, 2,253 vehicles, which were scrapped via the End-of-Life Vehicle Disposal Tracking System (OTA), by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, were brought into the economy at licensed facilities.

According to the information received by the AA correspondent from the ministry, efforts are underway to prevent the generation of waste from vehicles and to recycle the vehicles and their parts that have completed their life, in order to protect the environment and human health.

End-of-life vehicles, unlike other environmental impacts of the automotive industry, are not only environmental pollutants, but also an economic value due to the recyclable, recoverable and reusable materials they contain.

In this context, with the ELV system, which was established in 2012 with the cooperation of the Ministry and the General Directorate of Security, and provides online data sharing, vehicles that have completed their life in the category of motor vehicles (M1) and motorized cargo transport vehicles (N1) with a maximum mass of not exceeding 3.5 tons, with seating for a maximum of 8 people other than the driver, are prevented from being scrapped before being delivered to licensed facilities.

In order to delete the traffic record of these vehicles and to document their environmentally compatible disposal, facilities that have received an environmental license from the Ministry or a letter of conformity for the place of delivery from the provincial directorate are also required to use the “End of Life Vehicle Deregistration and Disposal Form”. In this way, it is possible to monitor the recovery of scrap vehicles.

For the recycling of scrap vehicles, vehicles that have completed their life in Turkiye can be received from their owners at 307 points in all provinces.

Within the scope of the Regulation on the Control of End-of-Life Vehicles by the facilities in the system, in the first half of 2023, a total of 2 thousand 253 vehicles, 1755 M1 class and 498 N1 class, were brought into the economy by licensed facilities.
