Turkiye’s retail sales volume up 6.2% in February

Non-food sales, excluding automotive fuel, jump 12.6% year-on-year, official data shows

Turkiye’s retail sales volume, a marker of growing consumer spending, surged 6.2% in February compared to the same month last year, the country’s statistical authority said Tuesday.

Non-food sales excluding automotive fuel jumped 12.6% year on year in February, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data showed.

However, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, as well as automotive gasoline, fell by 0.6% and 0.7%, respectively.

Among non-food items, textile, apparel, and footwear sales rose the most, climbing 31.2%, followed by medical goods and cosmetics, which increased 16.2%.

Sales by mail order and the internet rose by 20.7% year on year in February.

On a monthly basis, Turkiye’s retail sales volume rose by 0.5% in the month.​​​​​​​
