Turkiye: The number of digital banking customers exceeded 85 million

In the second quarter of the year, the total number of active digital banking customers reached 85 million 130 thousand, while a total financial transaction volume of ₺11 trillion was realized through internet and mobile banking.

According to the digital, internet and mobile banking statistics published by the Banks Association of Turkiye (TBB), the total number of active digital banking customers reached 85 million 130 thousand in the April-June period. The said figure indicated an increase of 14 million 354 thousand people compared to the same period of the previous year.

While 2 million 527 thousand of these people made only internet banking transactions, 73 million 937 thousand only used mobile banking. The number of people performing both internet and mobile banking transactions reached 8 million 667 thousand.

Approximately 54 million of active retail digital banking customers were men and 27 million were women. Of these users, 32 million 630 thousand were in the age group of 36-55, 22 million 608 thousand in the age group of 26-35 and 15 million 685 thousand in the age group of 18-25.

“Money transfers” were made with internet banking the most

The number of individual customers registered in the system to do internet banking and who have logged in at least once reached 86 million at the end of June.

The total number of financial transactions made using the internet banking service was 120 million and the amount was approximately ₺4 trillion.

Money transfers including EFT, remittance and foreign currency transfer transactions had the largest share among these financial transactions, with a transaction volume of ₺2 trillion 830 billion and 69 million transactions. This was followed by investment transactions with a transaction volume of ₺636 billion and 17 million transactions.

In this period, the total number of financial transactions made using internet banking services increased by 5 million compared to the first quarter and by 7 million compared to the previous year. The total transaction volume increased by ₺745 billion on a quarterly basis and by ₺2 trillion on an annual basis.

In the second quarter, “stocks” took the first place in the volume of investment transactions in internet banking with ₺198 billion and 11.5 million transactions. This was followed by “currency transactions” with ₺157 billion and 2 million transactions. While the highest average transaction volume was realized in VIOP with ₺173 thousand, it was followed by “time account transactions” with ₺109 thousand.

On the other hand, the number of instant loans made available through internet banking in the second quarter amounted to 102 thousand and the volume was ₺4 billion. The number of insurance sales realized in the same period was 61 thousand.

Mobile banking transaction volume reached ₺7 trillion

As of June, the total number of customers registered in the system for mobile banking and logged in at least once was 131 million 827 thousand. 82 million 603 thousand of these people logged into the system at least once in the April-June period.

The total number of active customers increased by 4 million 344 thousand people compared to the previous quarter, and 14 million 785 thousand people compared to the previous year.

As of the second quarter, the total number of financial transactions made using mobile banking services was ₺1.4 billion and the amount was ₺7 trillion. Money transfers, including EFT, remittance and foreign currency transfer transactions, accounted for 65% of the financial transaction volume and 24% for investment transactions.

In the same period, the volume of 4 million instant loans extended through mobile banking was approximately ₺99 billion, while 3 million 204 thousand insurance sales were realized.
