Turkiye: The first export has been made to Jordan within the scope of “TPS-OIC”

Within the scope of the Preferential Trade System Framework Agreement between the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the first export from Turkiye was made to Jordan from Izmir Aliaga Port.

The regulations regarding the TPS-OIC Framework Agreement, which is one of the most important projects in the field of trade of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC), chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, entered into force on 1 July.

The first export from Turkiye within the scope of the agreement was 54 tons of fabric sent to Jordan by a company from Izmir.

“TPS-OIC Certificate of Origin” was used for the first time for the export of products.

After the document approved by the Aliağa Customs Directorate of the Ministry of Commerce, the containers containing the export product fabric were loaded on the ships.

Provides tax exemption

Aliaga Deputy Director of Customs, Yigit Erdevir, said that they made the first transaction within the scope of TPS-OIC, a project of COMCEC in the field of trade.

Erdevir noted that customs consultants checked the proof of origin document filled by taxpayers, and gave the following information:

“If it complies with the legislation, we approve and seal it. We confirm that this item belongs to our country, is produced in our country and is exported from our country. We are preparing a document showing that it belongs to our country with an official seal. When we send this to the OIC member countries, they prove that the goods belong to us, and thus they import them to their own countries by providing tax exemption.”

Erdevir noted that the proof of origin provides tax exemption and that exports will increase rapidly in this way.

Yigit Erdevir wished that the agreement and the new implementation would be beneficial to the country and the nation.

The agreement

The system, which came to life with the decision taken at the 37th Ministerial Meeting of the COMCEC, whose secretariat services are provided by the Presidency Strategy and Budget Department, in November 2021, is aimed to create a strong basis for multilateral trade between Islamic countries.

The agreement, to which 13 countries, including Turkiye, is a party, brings customs tax reductions on various products.

In addition, it is envisaged that the relevant institutions, especially the Ministry of Commerce, will take initiatives to increase the number of party countries and expand the scope of products through new negotiations.
