Turkiye rose to 2nd place in Europe in air transport

Quickly overcoming the effects of the epidemic in air transport, Turkiye rose to the second place in Europe and the sixth in the world in terms of passenger traffic. Istanbul Airport continues its leadership in Europe.

Air traffic, which decreased by half in 2020, when restrictions were experienced intensely, is returning to its old days.

In this process, Turkiye started to attack again in air transportation. The number of passengers, which fell to 81 million in 2020, exceeded 128 million in 2021. This table is also reflected in the statistics.

Turkiye rose to 2nd place in Europe and 6th place in the world in passenger traffic in 2021. Three airports, which are flag carriers, were in the top 10 in Europe and in the top 50 in the world.

Istanbul Airport ranked first in Europe and 14th in the world. Istanbul Airport was followed by Sabiha Gokcen Airport.

The airport, which was 6th in Europe in 2021, ranked 35th in the world.

The tourism city Antalya Airport, on the other hand, was ranked 9th in Europe and 46th in the world.

“Istanbul Airport will set new records”

Huseyin Keskin, General Manager of the State Airports Authority, shared the air traffic figures at the Assembly KIT commission.

Keskin said that Istanbul Airport will set new records.

He noted that passenger traffic is expected to reach 172 million and air traffic to 2 million this year.
