Togg Maintains Clear Leadership in the Electric Vehicle Market in Turkiye

According to data compiled by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), Togg, the prominent player in the Turkish electric vehicle market, continued its market dominance with 1201 units sold in February, securing a substantial 25.48% market share out of a total of 4,713 fully electric vehicles sold in the country.

In the broader context of the automotive industry, total car and light commercial vehicle sales saw a remarkable 30.6% increase in February compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a total of 105,990 units.

While car sales surged by 39.67% to 82,277 units, light commercial vehicle sales also experienced a 6.6% uplift, reaching 23,713 units.

Shifts in Fuel Preferences: Diesel Declines, Full Electric Surges

Breaking down the sales figures by fuel types, petrol-powered cars led the market with 56,647 units, followed by hybrid vehicles with 11,336 units. Diesel car sales stood at 7,855 units, while autogas-powered vehicles recorded 640 units. Notably, the sales of fully electric vehicles reached 4,713 units.

When considering vehicles with extended range capabilities, incorporating a petrol engine generator to charge the battery and power the electric motor that drives the wheels, the overall sales figure for electric vehicles reached 5,799 units. Extended-range vehicles also fall under the “electric” category according to the Customs Tariff Statistics Position (GTIP).

Comparing last month’s sales to the same period in 2023, petrol car sales increased by 41.7%, while diesel and autogas car sales experienced declines of 28.4% and 17.9%, respectively. Hybrid car sales surged by 96.7%, and fully electric car sales skyrocketed by 287.9%.

Market Share Dynamics: Full Electric Achieves 5.7%

The market share of petrol cars increased from 67.9% in February of the previous year to 68.8% this year. Diesel cars’ market share declined from 18.6% to 9.5%, and autogas vehicles decreased from 1.3% to 0.8%.

In terms of overall market share, fully electric vehicles rose from 2.1% to 5.7%, while hybrids increased from 9.8% to 13.8%. Considering all electric-powered vehicles, including fully electric, extended-range, and hybrid, they now constitute 20.8% of the total market.

Togg at the Helm, Followed by BMW and Ssangyong

According to ODMD data, Togg, on its upward trajectory, led the electric vehicle market in February with 1201 units sold. Following Togg, BMW secured the second position with 523 units, Ssangyong with 510 units, Mercedes-Benz with 321 units, and Opel with 281 units. Tesla occupied the 11th spot on the list with 75 units sold.

On a model-specific basis, Togg T10X emerged as the top-selling model, followed by Ssangyong Torres in second place, BMW 5 Series in third, BYD Atto 3 in fourth, and MG MG4 as the fifth best-selling model in February.
