Turkiye: May record of all time was broken in furniture exports

Turkiye’s furniture exports increased by 14.4% last month compared to the same period of 2021 and reached $337 million, breaking the all-time record for May.

According to the information compiled from the figures of the Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Sector Board of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the country’s exports increased by 15.2% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $18.9 billion, achieving the best May performance of all time.

Furniture, paper and forestry products sector, on the other hand, achieved an export of $613 million with an increase of 22% in May. The export figure of furniture, which has the largest share in the sector, increased by 14.4% and reached $337 million. This data was recorded as the best May figure of all time.

When the January-May period is evaluated, exports in furniture, paper and forest products reached $3.32 billion, while this figure in the furniture sector was $1.96 million.

The highest export is to Iraq and Germany

The countries to which the furniture industry exports the most in May were listed as Iraq, Germany, USA, Israel and France. The country with the highest increase in exports last month was Qatar with 53.5%.

Among the products that stood out in furniture exports in this period were bedsteads and cradles for children, furniture for sitting, wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, metal furniture and furniture for sitting that could be turned into beds.

TIM Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Sector Board Chairman Ahmet Gulec said in a statement to the AA correspondent regarding the data, that they were happy that Turkiye broke a new export record in May for all sectors.

Stating that the furniture industry, which is approaching $2 billion, has made a significant contribution to the increasing export performance as a country against the current problems that force the global economy, Gulec made the following assessments:

“The fact that each actor of our industry does their part in the best way at this point and that investments increase even more enable us to overcome the obstacles ahead. When we look at furniture specifically, we see that our exports have increased by 60% in the last 5 years. The breakthroughs our companies have made in both the domestic and foreign markets are now more fruitful. We will continue to work harder for new successes in the upcoming period.”
