Turkiye: Automobile and light commercial vehicle sales decreased

Automobile and light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 9.3% in the first six months of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 357 thousand 904 units.

Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) published the Automobile and Light Commercial Vehicle Market Evaluation Report for the January-June period and June.

Accordingly, in the first half of the year, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market decreased by 9.3% to 357 thousand 904 units.

In the said period, automobile sales decreased by 10.3% to 278 thousand 282 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 5.6% to 79 thousand 622 units.

1% increase in June

The automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased by 1% in June to 80,652 units. The market in question increased by 13.4% compared to the 10-year average sales in June.

Compared to the same period of 2021, last month, automobile sales increased by 2.9% to 64 thousand 134 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 5.5% to 16 thousand 518 units. Compared to the 10-year June average, there was an increase of 14.9% in automobiles and 7.9% in light commercial vehicles.

SUV cars were preferred the most

Vehicles in the A, B and C segments with low tax rates constituted 89.1% of the market in the first 6 months. While C segment cars took the lead with 136 thousand 297 units and a share of 49%, B segment cars took a 39.6% share with 110 thousand 201 units.

The most preferred body type was SUV cars with 39.7%. SUV cars were followed by sedans with 36.1% and H/B cars with 22.2%.

70.4% of the cars sold are gasoline-powered

In the said period, 70.4% of the cars sold were gasoline, 16.9% diesel, 9.9% hybrids and 1.9% autogas vehicles. The number of electric car sales was 2 thousand 263.

In the January-June period, sales of cars under 1600cc decreased by 11.8%, sales in the 1600-2000cc range decreased by 43.6%, and sales over 2000cc decreased by 35.2%.

Automatics accounted for 77.8% of the automobile market

According to their emission levels, cars between 100-120 g/km had a share of 40.5% in the first 6 months market, while automobiles between 120-140 g/km had a share of 26.2%.

77.8% of the cars sold were automatic transmission cars and 22.2% were manual transmission cars.

When analyzed by special consumption tax brackets and engine types, 83% of the sales were in the gasoline/diesel engine type and 80% in the tax bracket, 7.2% in the gasoline/diesel engine type and 70% in the tax bracket.

Van body type was preferred the most in light commercial

Looking at the light commercial vehicle market by body type, the van body type had a share of 74.2% and the pickup truck body type had a share of 13.4%.
