Turkish Technic’s Istanbul Airport mega-hangars get maintenance greenlight

Twin hangars able to provide maintenance services for 3 wide and 11 narrow-body aircraft simultaneously

Turkish Technic, the maintenance, repair, and overhaul arm of flag carrier Turkish Airlines, has gotten base maintenance authorization for two massive hangars at the Istanbul mega-airport, said an official announcement on Tuesday.

The 60,000-square-meter (646,000-square-feet) hangars, which opened last October as the biggest hangars in the world, can provide maintenance services for three wide and 11 narrow-body aircraft simultaneously.

“Following the authorization, Turkish Technic welcomed its first base maintenance customers, three Airbus-type aircraft,” said a press release.

“The Airbus A321neo has been the first aircraft to be given the Certificate of Release to Service (CRS),” it added.

The hangars meet their water and energy needs by harvesting rainwater along with solar energy.

Mikail Akbulut, Turkish Technic’s CEO, said the company is “proud to have completed the very first aircraft base maintenance” at the new hangars.

He called the hangars a milestone for the global maintenance, repair, and overhaul market and the Turkish civil aviation sector.

“When all phases of our facilities at Istanbul Airport are complete, we will have 11 hangars in total, and we will be able to provide maintenance and repair services to 26 narrow and 19 wide-body aircraft simultaneously,”he added.

According to the company, Turkish Technic is one of the world’s leading aviation services providers, with comprehensive maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, and reconfiguration services performed by a highly qualified workforce from around the world.
