Turkish stocks surpass 111,000 points at close

BIST 100 earns nearly 3,900 points from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed the day at 111,207.27 points on Tuesday, up 3.63% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index started the day at 108,997.50 points. As of the daily close, it earned 3,897.4 points from Monday’s close of 107,309.87 points.

The index had seen over 120,000 level last month. During the day, it hovered between 108,881.41 points and 111,207.27 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 777.6 billion Turkish liras ($125.03 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 10.07 billion Turkish liras ($1.62 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 93 stocks on the index rose, six were down, and one were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by defense giant Aselsan, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and private lender Garanti.

State-lender Vakifbank was the best performer, with its shares up 8.06%, while conglomerate Alarko Holding dropped the most, losing 4.1%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,602 by market close, up from $1,609 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $53 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
