Turkish stock market ends week with gains

BIST 100 index rises over 47 points from previous close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,533.33 points on Friday, with a daily gain of 1.93%.

Starting the day at 2,493.55 points, the index increased 47.97 points from Thursday’s close of 2,485.36.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,485.82 points, while its highest was 2,533.33.

Its total market value was more than 2 trillion Turkish liras ($120 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 35.6 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).

During the final transaction day of the week, 78 stocks on the index rose, 21 fell, and one remained unchanged compared to Thursday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, steel producer Eregli and glass manufacturer Sise Cam.

Mining company Koza Madencilik was the best performer of the day with its shares up 8.01%, while automotive firm Dogus saw the biggest drop of 3.57%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,852.20 by market close, up from $1,827 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil plummeted 5.1% to $113.71 per barrel as of 6.28 p.m. local time (1528GMT).
