Turkish stock market closes with new records on Friday

100 rises over 18 points to hit new record high closing

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul gained 0.77% on Friday to close at a new record high of 2,494.37 points after hitting a fresh mid-day all-time high of 2,497.41 points.

This also marked the highest weekly closing for the BIST 100 index.

Starting the day at 2,479 points, the BIST 100 rose 18.96 points from Thursday’s close of 2,475.41 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,471.73 points, while its daily high was 2,497.41 points.

Its total market value was more than 2 trillion Turkish liras ($138.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 33 billion liras ($2.2 billion).

During the last transaction day of the week, 67 stocks on the index rose, 30 fell, and three remained unchanged compared to Thursday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and real estate investment trust Emlak Konut.

Real estate investment trust Is Gayrimenkul Yatirim Ortakligi was the best performer of the day with its shares up 9.63%, while agricultural chemicals producer Hektas saw the biggest drop, 3.3%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,973 by market close, slightly lower than $1,973.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was $111.23 per barrel after a 0.1% daily loss as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
