Turkish stock market closes Thursday with new records

BIST 100 jumps over 30 points for new all-time high closing

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul on Thursday climbed 1.22% to close at a new all-time high of 2,556.81 points.
The BIST 100 index also hit a fresh intraday record of 2,562.28 points.

Starting the day at 2,531.68 points, the index jumped 30.89 points from Wednesday’s close of 2,525.93.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,531.20 points.

Its total market value was more than 2.08 trillion Turkish liras ($142.1 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 47.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.2 billion).

During the fourth transaction day of the week, 62 stocks on the index rose, 34 fell and four remained unchanged compared to Wednesday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA, and real estate investment trust Emlak Konut.

State lender VakifBank was the best performer of the day with its shares up 7.95%,while Borusan Yatirim ve Pazarlama AS saw the biggest drop of 4.47%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,942 by market close, down from $1,951.80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.8% to $107.66 per barrel as of 6.22 p.m. local time (1522GMT).
