Turkish stock market closes lower on Thursday

BIST 100 index loses over 45 points from previous close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,485.36 points on Thursday, with a daily loss of 1.81%.

Starting the day at 2,536.80 points, the index decreased 45.75 points from Wednesday’s close of 2,531.11.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,469.21 points, while the highest was 2,544.11.

Its total market value was more than 2 trillion Turkish liras ($118 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 36 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).

During the fourth transaction day of the week, 23 stocks on the index rose, 76 fell, and one remained unchanged, compared to Wednesday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, polyester producer Sasa and steel producer Eregli.

Automotive firm Dogus was the best performer of the day with its shares up 5.41%, while conglomerate Dogan Holding saw the biggest drop of 5.11%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,827 by market close, up from $1,815 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.25% to $118.23 per barrel as of 6.46 p.m. local time (1546GMT).
