THY and China Eastern Airlines cooperation agreement

A memorandum of understanding was signed between THY and China Eastern Airlines within the framework of the international aviation forum North Bund Forum 2023 held in Shanghai, China.

According to the statement made by THY Press Consultancy, after the recovery of the Turkiye-China market after the coronavirus outbreak, China Eastern Airlines decided to organize flights to Istanbul. In line with this decision and the discussions, China Eastern Airlines made its first flight today. Flights on the Shanghai-Istanbul route will be operated reciprocally, three times a week.

At the meeting held in Shanghai, an agreement was reached to develop and expand the cooperation between the two airlines. In this context, the efficiency of the existing Special Proration Agreement between the two airlines will be increased.

“We will continue to take the necessary actions that will enable us to grow in the Chinese market.”

THY General Manager Bilal Eksi, whose views were included in the statement, stated that THY is not satisfied with what it has today and has become an important company with its existing flight network and collaborations within the scope of its success journey from boutique to the top.

Pointing out that the flights to the People’s Republic of China continue in Shanghai, Guanzo and Beijing with seven weekly frequencies, Eksi continued as follows:

“In addition to our expeditions, we will continue to take the necessary actions that will enable us to grow in the Chinese market in line with our collaborations with our partners in the region. Therefore, we will not only focus on our own operations in this region, but will also pioneer all steps that will enable each of our partners to grow together with us. As underlined by the memorandum of understanding we signed with China Eastern Airlines, Turkish Airlines will aim beyond its capacity.”

“The parties will further strengthen cooperation in the future”

China Eastern Airlines Chief Executive (CEO) Li Yangmin explained that the opening of China Eastern Airlines’ aviation service from Shanghai to Turkiye will further facilitate trade and employment between the two countries.

Noting that the cooperation between the two airlines has a good basis, Li said, “With the signing of this memorandum, the parties will further strengthen cooperation in the future. We look forward to cooperating and developing in the fields of ground services and flight network for a common future.”

With Istanbul Airport acting as a bridge between Europe and Asia, Turkiye’s geopolitical, touristic and cultural importance has increased even more. Being aware of this value, THY continues to develop its collaborations in line with this vision.
