According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report for the Year 2022” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), natural gas exports in 2022 increased by 51.8% compared to 2021 and reached 581 million 430 thousand cubic meters.
Turkiye’s total natural gas imports decreased by 6.9% compared to 2021 and fell to 54 billion 661 million cubic meters last year.
Pipe gas accounted for 39 billion 490 million cubic meters of natural gas imports last year, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 15 billion 170 million cubic meters.
Among the more than 20 countries from which natural gas was purchased in the relevant period, the most imports were from Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, the USA and Algeria, respectively.
Most gas exports were made to Bulgaria
Natural gas exports rose to 581 million 430 thousand cubic meters in 2022 with an increase of 51.8% compared to the previous year.
While natural gas was exported to 4 countries last year, Bulgaria became the country with the highest export volume with 254 million 860 thousand cubic meters. Bulgaria was followed by Greece with 228 million 290 thousand cubic meters, Switzerland with 98 million 230 thousand cubic meters, Serbia with 50 thousand cubic meters.
Exports were made as pipe gas to Bulgaria and Greece, and LNG to Switzerland and Serbia.
Natural gas production decreased by 3.7%
On the other hand, Turkiye’s natural gas production in 2022 decreased by 3.7% compared to the previous year and fell to 379 million 810 thousand cubic meters.
Tekirdag ranked first in natural gas production with 181.8 million cubic meters. This city was followed by Kirklareli with 129.6 million cubic meters, Istanbul with 51.3 million cubic meters, Duzce with 9.3 million cubic meters, Canakkale with 3.7 million cubic meters, Edirne with 2.5 million cubic meters, Adiyaman with 1.3 million cubic meters and Hatay with 50 thousand cubic meters. .
Natural gas consumption fell by 10.5%
Turkiye’s natural gas consumption decreased by 10.5% in 2022 compared to the previous year and decreased to 53 billion 521 million cubic meters.
The share of residences in natural gas consumption was 33.6%, the share of electricity production was 27.1%, the share of industry was 25%, the remaining share was shared by other sectors.
