OECD jobless rate comes in at record low for 6th consecutive month

Number of unemployed decreased to 33.9M in OECD area last year

The unemployment rate in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) area was stable at a record low of 4.9% for the sixth consecutive month in December.

The number of unemployed dropped to 33.9 million in the OECD area last year,the lowest annual level, the Paris-based organization said in a statement on Tuesday.

The number of jobless reached record lows in Poland, Slovenia, and the US, according to the organization.

The OECD unemployment rate was unchanged in December for both women and men, at 5.2% and 4.7%, respectively.

The youth unemployment rate for people aged 15-24 was stable at 10.9% in December compared to a month earlier.

In the EU and the euro area, the jobless rate also remained at record lows of 6.1% and 6.6%, respectively.

Outside Europe, the headline figure dropped in Canada and the US and was stable in Australia, Japan, and Mexico.

On the other hand, it increased in Colombia, Israel, South Korea, and Turkiye.
