Turkish firm exports bullfrog to Europe for over 6 decades

Sagun Group also sells fish, seafood to nearly 40 countries ranging from Switzerland to Japan, says vice chairman

For over 60 years, Turkiye’s prominent fishery and aquaculture company has been exporting bullfrogs to Europe, where its delicacies are well-known.

“We began selling frogs to France in the early 1960s. We are currently exporting processed and semi-finished water frogs to France and Switzerland, where it is consumed the most,” said Ogulcan Kemal Sagun, vice chairman of the Sagun Group.

The company is engaged in farming products such as tuna, sea bream, sea bass, trout, Turkish salmon, water frog, sea snail, shrimp, and crab.

It has 15 facilities throughout Turkiye and exports 70% of its production,Sagun said.

Noting that the company exports to nearly 40 countries ranging from Switzerland to Japan, Sagun said tuna is their leading product, with 90% of sales going to Japan.

“Turkish salmon is our source of pride for us. Because Turkiye is the second largest aquaculture country in Europe after Norway,” he noted.​​​​​​​
