Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes above 1,900 for 1st time with new records

BIST 100 gains 30.35 points, or 1.61%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended Friday with gains, surpassing 1,900 points for the first time in its history with another record closing of 1,910.41 points.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index also hit a new intraday all-time high of 1,914.13 points after starting the day at 1,896.82 points and gaining 30.35, or 1.61%, from the previous close of 1,880.06.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,893.67 points, while reaching a high of 1,914.13 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.6 trillion Turkish liras ($116 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of approximately 30.2 billion liras ($2.2 billion).

While 82 stocks on the index rose during the day, 15 fell and three remained unchanged compared to Thursday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.

Airport operator TAV Airports Holding was the best performer with its shares up 9.53%, while stocks of Agricultural insecticide producer Hektas saw the sharpest drop, falling 2.12%.

An ounce of gold traded for $1,770.10 by market close, down from $1,775.20 at the previous close,according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 3.9% to $72.38 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
