Two new records from Sabiha Gokcen Airport

Yesterday, 729 flights were made at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and 123 thousand 40 passengers were hosted.

Due to the closure of schools and the extension of the festive holiday to 9 days, the heavy travel traffic observed all over Turkiye has turned into a record for Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG).

Yesterday, 729 flights were made in ISG and 123,40 passengers made their journeys. In terms of intensity experienced in one day, this number became a new record for ISG.

ISG, which broke a historical record in the number of daily passengers on 25 June, at the same time, broke the international records with 406 flights and 68 thousand 660 passengers, including 196 arriving (34 thousand 210 arriving passengers) and 210 departing flights (34 thousand 450 departing passengers).

“We expect these numbers to increase even more”

ISG Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Berk Albayrak, stated that aviation is one of the sectors most affected by the epidemic, and said, “There is an extra intensity at the airports as life returns to normal and the postponed travel plans resume with a much higher demand. While there was summer enthusiasm in Sabiha Gokcen with the effect of the school and holiday holidays, we broke a historical record in flight and passenger numbers yesterday.”

Albayrak stated that they expect these numbers to increase even more due to the combination of the Eid holiday and the return of the pilgrimage.

Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, which has routes connecting 154 destinations in 51 countries, reached 14 million passengers in the first 5 months of 2023.

As of June, the British airline British Airways and London Heathrow, Rhodes and Lesbos in Greece, Amman in Jordan and Kazan in Russia, the airport has added 5 new international routes, providing transportation to 51 countries with 45 airlines.
