Turkish currency loses value, Istanbul stock exchange & gold updates at monday close

BIST 100 index decreases 46.18 points from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended Monday down 3.88% to 1,144.45 points.

After starting the week at 1,182.45 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index slipped 46.18 points from 1,190.63 points at Friday’s close.

On Monday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,141.58 and 1,183.61 points nine stocks on the index rose and 90 fell compared to the previous close.

Ending the day with a market value of some 843 billion Turkish liras ($106 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 25.9 billion Turkish liras ($3.2 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, Turkish Industrial Development Bank (TSKB), and pharmaceutical firm Eczacibasi.

Paper/carton producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of apparel producer Mavi dropped the most, losing 10%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,888.00 by market close, down from $1,909.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $40.74 per barrel as of 6:15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Monday.
