The number of companies in the information and communication sector increased by 131.7% in Turkiye

While the number of companies operating in the field of information and communication in Turkiye increased by 131.7% to 35 thousand 37 in the 2013-2022 period, the number of employees in these companies approached 300 thousand.

According to the information compiled from the results of the “Sector Balance Sheets 2022” research conducted in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkiye, a regular increase has been observed in the last 10 years in the number of companies operating in the field of information and communication and the number of employees working there.

While the number of companies in the sector in question was 15 thousand 124 in 2013, this number increased to 17 thousand 569 in 2015, 20 thousand 387 in 2017 and 24 thousand 205 in 2019.

The sector continued to increase in 2020 and 2021, when the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic was effective. The number of companies has increased to over 31 thousand as of 2021. Last year, the number of companies in the sector was recorded as 35 thousand 37. Thus, the number of companies in the sector increased by 131.7% in the 2013-2022 period.

The increase in the number of companies also brought about an increase in employment. While the number of employees in the sector in question was 166 thousand 79 in 2013, this number increased to 189 thousand 40 in 2016, 212 thousand 528 in 2019 and 282 thousand 655 in 2022. In the 2013-2022 period, the number of employees in the sector increased by 70.2%.

There are mostly micro-sized companies

When the distribution of the companies in the sector in question was examined according to their scale, it was seen that the highest number of companies were micro-sized companies. Last year, 29 thousand 373 micro-scale, 4 thousand 652 small-scale, 827 medium-scale and 185 large-scale companies operated in the sector.

When we look at the types of companies, it was seen that a total of 22 thousand 663 were limited companies, 12 thousand 113 were joint stock companies, 7 were cooperatives and 254 were other types.
