Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 loses 560 points from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed the day at 100,707.48 points on Tuesday, falling 0.55% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 101,722.32 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index slipped 559.88 points from 101,267.36 points at Monday’s close.

On Tuesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 100,663.91 points and 101,917.52 points 35 stocks on the index rose, 60 fell, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 707.8 billion Turkish liras ($101.6 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 13.5 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($5.4 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($5 billion), and major Turkish discount chain BIM Birlesik Magazalar ($4.9 billion) were the leading companies on the BIST 100.

Shares of private lender Garanti BBVA, pharmaceutical firm Eczacibasi Ilac and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines saw the highest trading volumes on Tuesday, accounting for nearly 20% of the benchmark index’s total trade volume.

Stocks of prominent hospital group MLP Saglik (MPARK) performed the best, rising 9.99%, while shares of frozen foods producer Kerevitas (KERVT) did the worst, losing 4.99%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,711.00 by market close, down from $1,718.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $22.91 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday, amid worries that the rising glut in global oil markets would rapidly fill crude storage capacity around the world.
