Turkish carpet exporters achieved an export of $2 billion 341 million 17 thousand in the first 9 months of the year with an increase of 32.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the information compiled from the Southeastern Anatolian Exporters’ Associations (GAIB), carpet exporters, who made new investments and continued their search for markets, delivered their products to 174 countries in the January-September period.
Carpet exports in January-September 2021 increased by 32.3% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $2 billion 341 million 17 thousand.
In the said period, carpet makers exported $1 billion 983 million 591 thousand of machine carpets, $314 million 646 thousand of tufted carpets, $35 million 962 thousand of handmade carpets and $6 million 818 million of rugs.
Turkish carpet makers, sending the most products to the USA, Europe and the Middle East, received the most foreign exchange from the USA with $883 million 819 thousand, England with $125 million 858 thousand and Germany with $117 million 94 thousand.
The exports of Turkish carpet makers in the last 12 months amounted to $3 billion 174 million 471 thousand.
TARGET $3 BILLION
Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Carpet Industry Board Chairman Salahattin Kaplan told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the carpet industry achieved success in the 9 months of 2021.
Expressing that the exports in the 3 quarters of the year were above the same period of the previous year, Kaplan said:
“Our goal this year is to close exports above $3 billion. We hope to achieve this. The carpet industry is dragging many industries with it. It has as much relations with foreign industries as our own. Therefore, it trades with many industries. If we talk specifically about Gaziantep, the carpet industry meets 25% of the city’s exports and provides 25% employment. Our industry has grown by around 10% this year. Companies are making technological investments. The industry is evolving.”
