Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes above 2,100 with new record

BIST 100 gains 66.03 points, or 3.24%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed higher on Monday to climb above 2,100 points for the first time in history and ended the day at a new record-high level of 2,101.51 points.

Starting the day at 2,056 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 66.03 points, or 3.24%, from the previous close of 2,035.48 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,047.64 points, while its daily high was 2,115.89 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.68 trillion Turkish liras ($121.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of approximately 46 billion Turkish liras ($3.2 billion).

While 86 stocks on the index rose during the day,14 fell compared to Friday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti, iron and steel producer Kardemir, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of energy company Aksa Enerji performed the best with its shares up 9.98%, while stocks of waste-to-energy firm Biotrend saw the sharpest drop, with 4.15%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,783.95 by market close, up from $1,771.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 1.1% to $74.32 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT).
