Annual inflation in the Eurozone was 2.4% in March

The European Statistics Office (Eurostat) published the final inflation data for the Eurozone and the European Union (EU) for March.

According to the data, annual inflation in the Eurozone decreased from 2.6% in February to 2.4% in March. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.8% on a monthly basis in March.

Market expectations were for annual inflation in the Eurozone to be 2.4% and monthly inflation to be 0.8% in March. The released data matched market expectations.

Core inflation in the Eurozone was measured at 2.9% annually and 1.1% monthly in March.

In the EU, annual inflation decreased from 2.8% in February to 2.6% in March. The CPI in the EU was determined to be 0.7% on a monthly basis in March.

Looking at the main components of inflation in the Eurozone, the highest annual inflation occurred in services, at 1.76%. Following services were food, alcohol, and tobacco products at 0.53%, non-energy industrial products at 0.3%, while energy products declined by 0.16%.

According to harmonized data for the EU, inflation in March was 6.7% in Romania, 4.9% in Croatia, 4.1% in Austria and Estonia, 3.8% in Belgium, 2.4% in France, and 2.3% in Germany.
