Turkgozu Customs Gate reopened to traffic

Turkgozu Customs Gate, which provides transportation between Turkiye and Georgia, has been opened to pedestrian and vehicle passage again.

The construction work, which was started in 2021, continues at the border gate, for which the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkiye has allocated an appropriation of ₺100 million.

The border gate, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art technological facilities, has been opened to traffic, as well as the double entry and exit customs buildings, as well as a restaurant, sales shop and personnel lodgings.

With the opening of the border gate, the density of trucks began to form. Drivers continue to wait at the border where there is a car queue of about 3 kilometers.

“We expect the construction to be completed in 6 months”

Ardahan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO) President Cetin Demirci told reporters that the modernization works at Turkgozu Customs Gate, which started in October last year, continue.

Stating that the trucks making transportation to Central Asia via Georgia are using the gate intensively, Demirci said:

“The 2-month temporary closure ended on June 26. We expect the ongoing construction to be completed in 6 months. When the works are completed, we will have one of the most modern doors in Turkiye. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art devices such as vehicle recognition and passenger recognition system. It will be open to vehicle and pedestrian passage in the form of double departure and double arrival. This will be one of the modern faces of Turkiye opening up to Central Asia.”
