An all-time record was broken in e-commerce in November in Turkiye

An all-time sales record was broken in e-commerce in November. Last month, a transaction volume of ₺300 billion and 500 million orders were reached.

Hakan Cevikoglu, President of the Electronic Commerce Operators Association (ETID), said that with the experiences gained from past campaigns, changing consumer habits and e-commerce regulations, discount campaigns in November this year generally focused on certain weeks and lasted for a month.

Explaining that consumers have also gotten used to November campaigns and started to plan their demands accordingly, Cevikoglu stated that e-commerce platforms, sellers and brands also carry out campaign planning with this calendar.

Cevikoglu underlined that e-commerce witnessed intense discount campaigns and shopping during Singles’ Day, Black Friday, Teachers’ Day, Cyber Monday and the one-week school holiday on November 13. He emphasized that especially parents bought electronic items such as tablets and game consoles for their children during this period, and that products such as bags, pens and notebooks attracted attention with the opening of schools.

“The momentum in November shows that the year-end target can be achieved”

Cevikoglu pointed out that flower purchases take the lead on Teachers’ Day, and books, ceramic objects, mugs, frames and textile products are also in demand. Cevikoglu said, “This November, an all-time record was broken in e-commerce. It was a month full of records in both the number of transactions and trade volume. Compared to the previous month, the transaction volume and number of transactions in e-commerce nearly doubled. There was a growth of more than 4 times compared to November last year. This corresponds to a transaction volume of approximately ₺300 billion and 500 million orders for November 2023.”

Explaining that the size of the e-commerce sector in Turkiye is expected to reach a volume of approximately ₺1.8 trillion in 2023, Cevikoglu noted that although the 11-month net data is not yet clear, the momentum achieved in November shows that this target can be easily achieved.

“December will be filled with discount campaigns”

Touching on the projects planned to be carried out in the sector, Cevikoglu stated that the development of the e-commerce sector will be accompanied by e-export in the coming period, and therefore all platforms and sellers should make themselves ready for e-export.

Cevikoglu underlined that December will be full of discount campaigns so that consumers can meet affordable prices and quality products, and said, “Within the framework of the Last Market of the Year, Turkiye’s Market campaign, we are declaring 25-31 December as ‘Discount Week’. Within the scope of the campaign in question, our SME and national brands will liquidate all their remaining stocks from 2023 and make a fresh start in 2024. In the campaign organized with the motto ‘Let’s finish your stocks together’, our citizens will be able to buy millions of products that appeal to different needs and styles, from electronics to household products, from kitchenware to fashion products, at discounted prices.”
