Turkey’s technology exports increased by 6.6% in the first quarter of the year

Turkey exported $56.8 billion of “technology-intensive products” in the first quarter of the year. It was noteworthy that while exports of “high-tech products” increased by 6.6% in the three-month period, imports decreased by 9.8%.

Focusing on new targets with the vision of “National Technology Strong Industry”, Turkey’s technology-intensive product exports increased by 20.7% in the first quarter of the year and reached $56.8 billion.

The “National Technology Move” carried out under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Technology is bearing fruit. With the works carried out with the vision of “National Technology Strong Industry”, Turkey’s exports of manufacturing industry products have increased rapidly in the last period according to technology intensity.

According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce and the Turkish Statistical Institute, exports of high, medium-high, medium-low and low technology products totaled $212 billion 827 million last year. Compared to 2020, an increase of 33.1% drew attention.

Of these, nearly $6.5 billion consisted of high-tech products, and $71 billion consisted of medium-high technology products.

Last year, nearly $206 billion of technology-intensive products in various classes were imported.

INCREASE TREND IN EXPORTS

The increase in technology-intensive product exports throughout 2021 continued in the first quarter of this year as well.

In the January-March period, according to technology intensity, exports of manufacturing industry products increased by 20.7% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $56 billion 844 million. This figure was recorded as approximately $47.1 billion in the same period of last year.

In the three months in question, exports of high-tech products were $1.6 billion, exports of medium-high technology products were $18.7 billion, exports of medium-low technology products were $17.8 billion and exports of low-tech products were $18.7 billion. Increases of 6.6% in high-tech products and 10.5% in medium-high-tech products were also noteworthy.

IMPORTS OF HIGH-TECH PRODUCTS DECREASED

In the January-March period, the imports of manufacturing industry products increased by 20.3% and reached $58 billion 130 million according to the technology intensity. In the same period of 2021, the import of these products was recorded as $48.3 billion.

The decline in the imports of “high-tech products” in the said 3 months drew attention. Turkey, which imported $6.4 billion of high-tech products in the first 3 months of last year, realized an import of $5.8 billion in the same period of this year, with a decrease of 9.8%. Imports were $26.3 billion in medium-high technology products, $18.9 billion in medium-low technology products, and $7.1 billion in low-tech products.
