Turkey’s service sector takes lion’s share of employment

Service sector constitutes 37.9% of total employment, according to official data

Turkey’s service sector took the lion’s share in the number of enterprises and employment, according to temporary official data released on Thursday.

“In employment, the service sector constituted 37.9% of the total employment, while the employment share of the industrial sector was 28.9%,” said the Turkish Statistical Institute(TurkStat).

The data showed 43.2% of the enterprises active in 2020 were in the service sector and 36.6% in the trade sector.

The report said 56.6% of enterprises in manufacturing took part in low-tech activities, adding: “These enterprises involved in low-technology activities accounted for 51.9% of employment and 37.8% of turnover.”

TurkStat also said the trade sector had the highest share in turnover with 46%.

“While the turnover share of the service sector, which has the highest number of enterprises and the highest share of employment, was 14%, the turnover share of the industry sector was 34.1%,” it said.
