Turkey’s mask sales increased 144 times during the epidemic process

There was a great increase in the sales of products such as masks, colognes and disinfectants used within the scope of combating the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic in Turkey last year.

The 2020 Annual Industrial Product Statistics of the Turkish Statistical Institute revealed the detailed production and sales levels of industrial products.

Notable increases were recorded in the sales of products such as masks, colognes, soaps, wet wipes, and non-woven fabrics, for which the demand was concentrated, especially within the scope of the fight against the epidemic.

The N95 mask and other protective masks, which were previously used by certain groups such as healthcare workers and in special situations, became a part of daily life with the onset of the epidemic. Mask sales, which were 56 million 50 thousand 527 in 2019, increased to 8 billion 144 million 867 thousand 472 last year with the mandatory use of masks to prevent the spread of the epidemic. With the epidemic, mask sales increased approximately 144 times.

Cologne sales increased from 36 million 883 thousand 490 liters to 103 million 905 thousand 993 liters. The sales of cologne have increased nearly 2 times.

Sales of cleaning materials such as soap and wet wipes increased from 302 million 349 thousand 725 kilograms to 445 million 818 thousand 747 kilograms.

While 31 million 891 thousand 880 kilograms of substances were sold for disinfectant, this amount reached 119 million 157 thousand 200 kilograms in 2020. The sales of these substances increased approximately 3 times.

Non-woven fabric sales increased from 500 million 917 thousand 437 kilograms to 783 million 153 thousand 965 kilograms.

On the other hand, while ₺4 billion 339 million of medical drugs were produced in 2019, this figure increased to ₺4 billion 644 million last year.
