Turkey’s first official aircraft observation deck, called Spotter, where aviation photographers can shoot, was put into service at Istanbul Airport. Spotters, who had problems with the security units because they were shooting around the airports without permission, stated that they were happy to have an area where they could shoot without any security problems, and said, “We have been waiting for a long time. We hope it will spread to other airports.”

WHAT WILL THOSE DO WHO WANT TO DO SHOOTINGS?

By breaking new ground, Istanbul Airport has created a special area for aviation enthusiasts to capture the best photo frames. Spotters who want to shoot from the viewing terrace, which is located at a dominant point with the airport’s number one runway and the air traffic control tower, can apply via www.istairport.com. In the system where the applications will be evaluated on a weekly basis, the entrance to the area will be made with a temporary apron card. People who upload their Turkish ID or passport front-facing photos and fill in the HES code in the spotter form will be able to upload their passport photos and apply. In the first stage, transportation to the area, which will only serve on Saturdays between 08:00 and 17:30, will be provided by IGA with vehicles departing from the Istanbul Airport P6 Turquoise parking lot.

WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A LONG TIME

Aviation photographers, who were questioned by the security units because they were shooting around some airports in Turkey without permission, said that they were happy to have an area where they could shoot without any security problems. The spotters, who shot in Turkey’s first official spotter area opened by IGA, expressed their feelings to SABAH as follows.

Samet Elveren: I have been shooting for 5 years. I am someone who loves this job. This place is really beautiful. It’s nice that they specifically thought of spotters. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I would like to thank everyone who contributed. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time

Arman Haliloglu, a high school student who came to Istanbul from Alanya to shoot: My father was a partner in an airline company. I also had a passion for airplanes. I have shot in Germany and some European countries before. We are delighted to have an observation terrace at a big airport like Istanbul Airport.

Mert Ergec from Izmir: I was already interested in airplanes. I started with the help of a friend who took airplane photos. I have been shooting for 3 years. I came here for the day. I’m shooting at Adnan Menderes Airport. Once we were caught by the police in Antalya. We are very happy to have a place where the police will not block us, officially with a card.

I HOPE IT SPREADS TO OTHER AIRPORTS

Ogulcan Bingol: I have been shooting since 2017. We were shooting at Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen Airports. It’s nice to be able to take pictures officially for the first time. A very good start for Turkey. I hope it spreads to other airports as well.
