Turkiye’s exports to Canada will increase in many sectors from gold and jewelry to carpets

Turkiye-Canada Business Council President Yilmaz said, “Our exports to this country will increase in many areas, from iron and steel to aluminum goods, from gold and jewelry to carpets.”

TUPRAG Chairman of the Board of Directors Mehmet Yilmaz was elected as the chairman of the Turkiye-Canada Business Council within the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK). Yilmaz noted that they will work to raise the trade volume with Canada to higher levels in the new period.

After the Turkish Grand National Assembly approved Sweden’s NATO membership, Canada reached an agreement with Turkiye to lift the restrictions on gun exports that have been in place since 2020. It is stated that the agreement in question will come into force after Sweden’s NATO approval is completed, and a new era will begin in trade with Canada. According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs data, the trade volume with Canada was approximately $2.76 billion in 2021, $3.22 billion in 2022, and $2.8 billion as of November 2023. During this period, a trade surplus of $589 million was recorded in favor of Turkiye in bilateral trade volume. Yilmaz, who was elected as the chairman of the Turkiye-Canada Business Council, explained that they will improve the trade volume and mutual investment between Canada and Turkiye, which is among the target countries of 2024 by the Ministry of Commerce.

STRONG RELATIONSHIPS

Evaluating the relations between the two countries upon taking office, Yilmaz said that they aimed to increase the trade volume between the two countries during his presidency. Yilmaz said, “There are many studies and projects that will complement each other between Turkiye and Canada. We are entering a period in which we will further strengthen our relations and cooperate more. Our primary responsibility is to develop projects that will motivate the investors of both countries and to support all these studies. We have commercial relations in various sectors, from iron and steel to machinery, from fresh fruits to aluminum items, from gold and jewelry to wooden items and carpets.”
