Turkiye: Natural gas imports decreased by 30.4% in October

Turkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 30.4% in October compared to the same month of the previous year and became approximately 3 billion 238 million cubic meters. While the most natural gas import was made from Russia with 948 million cubic meters, this country was followed by Azerbaijan with 760 million cubic meters and Iran with 671 million cubic meters.

According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for October, approximately 2 billion 381 million cubic meters of imports were realized through pipelines and 857 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

In this period, natural gas imports through pipelines decreased by approximately 21.2% and LNG imports decreased by 47.5%. Total natural gas imports decreased by 30.4% in October compared to the same month of the previous year and became approximately 3 billion 238 million cubic meters.

In October, the most natural gas imports were made from Russia with 948 million cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 760 million cubic meters and Iran with 671 million cubic meters.

Natural gas imports from Russia decreased by 49.1%, imports from Azerbaijan decreased by 0.1%, while imports from Iran increased by 69.9%.

Gas consumption of houses decreased by 16.3%

In the said period, natural gas consumption in the country decreased by 16.3% and became 423 million cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption of organized industrial zones decreased by 16.8% and was recorded as 320 million cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in power plants decreased by 51.2% to 878 million cubic meters. The decrease in the gas consumption of the power plants was also the determining factor in the decrease in total consumption and imports.

Natural gas consumption in residences, on the other hand, decreased by 16.3% in October compared to the same month of the previous year and became 423 million cubic meters.

Natural gas stock increased

The amount of natural gas stock in Turkiye rose to 3 billion 818 million cubic meters in October with an increase of 39.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

3 billion 673 million cubic meters (96.2%) of the natural gas stock was in underground storage facilities and 145 million cubic meters (3.8%) was in LNG terminals.

In this period, the amount of stock in underground storage facilities increased by 48.9%, while the amount of stock in LNG terminals decreased by 47.3%.
