Turkey’s furniture exports reached an all-time high

Exports of furniture, paper and forestry products increased by 27.5% in January-March 2022 and reached $1 billion 933.3 million. Turkey’s furniture exports reached an all-time high.

According to the data compiled from the figures of the Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association, the exports of the sector increased by 27.5% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period of 2021 and reached $1 billion 933.3 million.

In this period, furniture exports reached $1 billion 149 million, achieving the highest first quarter figure.

High increases continued to be seen in the March exports of the sector. Compared to the same period of 2021, there was an increase of 29.6% in furniture, paper and forestry products, and 22% in furniture in March.

Most exports to the USA

While the furniture sector exported the most to the USA, Germany, France, Iraq and Libya in March, the market with the highest increase was Qatar with 65%. In this period, mostly children’s cots and cradles, furniture for sitting, wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, metal furniture, furniture for sitting that can be turned into beds were exported.

“We brought our industry forward in many developed country markets”

Erkan Ozkan, Chairman of the Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the industry gained an incredible momentum in line with the previous studies and steps, and said, “Our industry has succeeded in coming to the fore in many developed country markets with our success in production and exports.”

Noting that they contribute billions of dollars to the country’s exports every year, Ozkan said, “We do not have a chance to stop and rest today. We are in a time where we need to go further. We have to carry the labor, sweat and production of our industrialists to a better future, even higher than the point we took.”

Reminding that he took the chair of the presidency a short time ago, Ozkan said that they would carry the flag of success handed to them even further, take all necessary steps and add new ones to their success stories.

$693 million of paper and cardboard products were exported in the first quarter

On the other hand, exports of paper and cardboard products of the sector continued to increase rapidly. In the January-March period, the share of this group in the sector’s exports increased to $693 million.

Alican Duran, Vice President of Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association, said that the world’s demand for paper and cardboard products will increase with each passing year.

Duran said, “Our industry is among the critical sectors of today and the future. Knowing this very well, we should give more importance to value-added products in paper and cardboard, sustainability and recycling, so that we can make the name of Turkey and Turkish paper manufacturers more popular in the world market.”
