Turkey’s exports in the chemical industry increased by 40% in the first half of the year

Can Gokseven, the founder of Nante Kimya, which supplies raw materials to the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and animal nutrition sectors, said that the export figures in the chemical sector made a promising development. Evaluating the 2021 export data of the Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters’ Association (IKMIB), Gokseven stated that the sector’s exports grew by 40% in the first half of the year compared to the previous year and reached $12 billion.

Emphasizing that in June 2021, exports in the chemical industry increased by 66.52% compared to June 2020, reaching $2.37 billion, Gokseven pointed out that the most exporting sector is the chemical industry, according to these figures. Expressing that the export figures of chemical products made a promising development, Gokseven stated that in the first half of the year, the sector’s exports grew by 40% compared to the previous year and reached $12 billion.

EXPORT TARGET IN THE SECTOR IS $23 BILLION

Pointing out that the Credit Guarantee Fund-guaranteed program to be implemented in July will make a significant contribution to the exporters in the sector, Gokseven emphasized that the export target for the sector in 2021 is $23 billion. According to the data shared by Gokseven, there was a noticeable increase in the exports of the chemical industry in sub-sectors. Accordingly, the rates of increase in the exports of some products in June compared to the previous year are listed as follows; mineral fuels, mineral oils and products (207.74%), organic chemicals (173.55%), inorganic chemicals (48.61%), pharmaceuticals (21.16%), essential oils, cosmetics and soap (6.46%).

Pointing out that 70% of the raw materials used in the chemical industry is imported and 30% is domestic production, Gokseven added that imports are made from 15 countries, mainly Russia, Germany, Iraq, the USA and China.

Saying that they have been producing at world standards since 2009, Gokseven pointed out that they also provide services in the fields of medicinal, aromatic plants and natural extracts, and stated that they are one of the leading suppliers for the Turkish industry. Stating that Nante is one of the few companies in this field, Gokseven emphasized that they offer a complete portfolio, especially menthol crystal, sweetener and herbal extract products, with their first class supplier base.

Gokseven stated that they provide services in the supply of products such as vegetable fibers, vegetable proteins, oleoresins, sourdough powders, camphor, amino acids, vegetable oils, natural colorants and beta glucan. Pointing out that some of these products have antioxidant effects that strengthen immunity, Can Gokseven made the following statements:

“These effects are especially seen in plant-based products. Accordingly, the demand for these products continues to increase. However, there are certain standards for such raw materials. Many factors, from the production of the products to the storage conditions, are important for the effect expected from the products. These products must be stored in the right climatic conditions and appropriately. Supply chain factors should also be well established. If these factors are not taken into consideration, the quality of the product and the active ingredient rates may change.”
