Hummingdrone, a local startup developing autonomous drones, received investment at a valuation of $1.5 million

Hummingdrone, which develops analysis solutions that contribute to the efficient growth of the solar energy industry using autonomous drones and software, announced that it received an investment at a valuation of $1.5 million.

According to the information we have obtained, the investment tour; Keiretsu Forum Turkiye angel investors attended. The tour hasn’t closed yet. New investors are expected to enter in the coming days.

Hummingdrone develops analysis solutions that contribute to the efficient growth of the solar energy industry using autonomous drones and software. Drones equipped with thermal and high-resolution cameras take the management of solar energy facilities to an innovative level with precise monitoring. Hummingdrone, which develops unmanned aerial vehicles, also develops software systems that will enable the efficient use of these vehicles.

Founded by two partners Orkun Asa and Ipek Gorgec in May 2019, the initiative prevented a loss of approximately $300 thousand that could have occurred due to loss of production in the last year.

“We offer end-to-end auditing and reporting services”

Stating that they have been working on the development of the drone’s subsystems since September 2017, Orkun and Ipek said in a joint statement:

“We have been developing our image evaluation platform since May 2020. Hummingdrone offers autonomous drone and analysis solutions for industrial needs. It solves the problems of fast, safe and accurate data collection in the energy sector with the autonomous drones it develops. INSPECT, an artificial intelligence-based image evaluation platform, produces automatic reports by creating a digital twin of assets. Hummingdrone accelerates and facilitates audit processes in the energy sector with the solutions it develops. We are currently focused on solar energy. We inspect solar power plants (SPP) with drones. By creating a digital twin of solar power plants, we detect faulty and maintenance-needing systems with artificial intelligence and automatically report them. Thanks to the inspections we carry out, we speed up maintenance processes and prevent production losses. We offer end-to-end audit and reporting services for solar energy investors and EPC companies.”

The goal is to prevent a loss of $50 million

Asa also emphasized that Hummingdrone works with nearly 20 companies and contributes to the solution of problems by providing valuable aerial insights in a wide variety of fields, from urban mapping to disaster management, from agriculture to the inspection of energy transmission lines.

“Approximately 5% of the production in solar power plants in the world is lost due to malfunctions and lack of maintenance. This rate is around 7.5% on average in Turkiye. Thanks to the technology we have developed, we want to prevent production losses in solar power plants and add power to solar energy investments, which is a renewable energy source. With the investment we received from Keiretsu Forum Turkiye angel investors at a valuation of $1.5 million, our goal is to strengthen solar energy investments by preventing a loss of $50 million by the end of 2025. There are startups developing autonomous industrial unmanned aerial vehicles in many parts of the world. By ensuring that data is collected with artificial intelligence, we ensure that higher quality and more accurate data is collected. In addition, thanks to the state-of-the-art image evaluation platform we have developed, we can automatically examine the data that our competitors examine manually, thanks to our artificial intelligence systems, and report the results. We are one of the three leading initiatives in the world in this field.”
