Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul posts new record at weekly close

BIST 100 index gains 13.44 points from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended with gains on Friday to hit another record closing of 1,638.50 points.

After starting the day at 1,631.43 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 13.44 points, or 0.83%, from Thursday’s close of 1,625.06 points.

This was the seventh consecutive trading day that the BIST 100 posted an all-time high,and the eighth day in a row that the index closed with gains.

Its lowest value during the day was 1,631.43 points and its daily high was 1,642.76 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was almost 1.3 trillion Turkish liras ($131 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 21.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

A total of 71 stocks on the index rose, while 23 fell and six remained unchanged compared to Thursday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical firm Petkim, private lender Garanti BBVA, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of conglomerate Bera Holding performed the best, rising 6.21%, while the stocks of waste-to-energy firm Biotrend dropped the most, 3.21%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,861 at 6.43 p.m. local time (1543GMT) for a 0.05% daily loss, according to official figures.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.7% to $82.30 per barrel at the time.
